Jamaica Hospital Medical Center Trauma Department takes its approach to prevention and education very seriously. Our presentations and workshops are evidence based information from a variety of peer reviewed sources and Cochrane evaluations. Bleeding to death is the number one cause of death after injury. With the dramatic rise in violence across New York City, an increasingly threatening public health crisis, more community members trained in Stop the Bleed is essential to save lives. Hemorrhage is responsible for approximately 30-40% of all trauma mortality and of these deaths, about 33-56% occur pre-hospital. Additionally, an individual can die from blood loss in as little as 3-5 minutes where it may take an ambulance anywhere between 7-11 minutes to arrive on scene after a call, another reason that Stop the Bleed training expansion is essential to prevent death and save lives.

Providing our patients with the highest-quality care is a top priority for Jamaica Hospital Medical Center and Flushing Hospital Medical Center. Therefore, our patients and community can rest assured that the pending CIR work stoppage will not impact inpatient or outpatient care. Our hospitals have implemented a comprehensive strike plan to ensure all services remain open to our community. No elective procedures have been postponed or cancelled and all medical and surgical clinical appointments will remain open.
