Anesthesiologist at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center

Jamaica Hospital Anesthesia and Sedation

The Department of Anesthesia is comprised of highly experienced and trained physicians who are experts in pain management and sedation. They are an important part of the clinical team, and they work with your physician or surgeon in managing your care throughout every step of your procedure.

If you are a surgical patient, prior to your scheduled operation a physician from the Department of Anesthesiology will visit you to discuss the anesthesia that you will receive. The anesthesiologist will choose the most suitable form of anesthesia based on an evaluation of your medical history and the procedure. Depending on the nature of the procedure, the physicians in our hospital may recommend general anesthesia, localized anesthesia, or full sedation.

Often, our anesthesiologists are also involved in post-operative care. When a procedure results in post-op discomfort, an anesthesiologist may help to ease any pain by administering local anesthesia or intravenous pain medications. This is assessed on a case-by-case basis and is determined based on the type of procedure and its outcome.

Any and all questions relating to your medical status and intended procedure can be answered at that time.
