Jamaica Hospital Medical Center’s Trauma Division is helping to raise awareness for the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) National Prescription Take Back Day initiative.
This year’s Drug Take Back Day will take place on Saturday, October 27th 2018 between the hours of 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM at a number of participating local precincts throughout New York City.
Our partners at the 103rd Precinct in Jamaica, Queens as well as the 112th Precinct in Forest Hills will be collaborating with the DEA to collect and safely dispose of any expired and unused medications.
The initiative was created to help prevent drug addiction, overdose deaths, and to raise awareness about the dangers of opioid misuse.
According to the 2016 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, “6.2 million Americans misuse controlled prescription drugs.” Many of these drugs are procured legally and obtained from family and friends from their own medicine cabinets.
