Gout

Gout is a painful form of arthritis. It occurs when your body has extra uric acid, and sharp crystals form in your joints, usually in your big toe. Symptoms of gout include intense pain, redness or discoloration, stiffness, swelling, tenderness, and a warm feeling in the joint. Treatment for gout manages symptoms and reduces how often high-purine foods and drinks are consumed. Treatment options include medications such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), colchicine, corticosteroids, medications that lower uric acid, and following a low purine diet.
