Pediatric Surgery

Pediatric surgery is a specialized field of surgery that concentrates on the diagnostic, operative, and postoperative surgical care for children with inherited and acquired abnormalities and diseases, whether they are developmental (such as hypertrophic pyloric stenosis, pyloric stenosis, inguinal hernia, appendicitis, and craniosynostosis), inflammatory (such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis), neoplastic (such as various types of malignant tumors), or traumatic (such as minor fractures and/or life-threatening organ damage). It also addresses the diagnostic and surgical problems in utero, infancy, childhood, adolescence, and sometimes, early adulthood.

Minimal Access Surgery

Advanced Surgical Procedures uses surgical techniques that utilize minimally invasive methods, robotic systems, and advanced imaging technologies to perform surgeries with smaller incisions, less pain, and quicker recovery times.

Appendicitis
Appendicitis occurs when the appendix gets clogged, infected, and inflamed. It can cause acute pain in the lower abdomen, however, for most people, pain begins around the belly button and then moves. As inflammation worsens, appendicitis typically becomes serious. Appendicitis may spontaneously resolve if the cause suddenly goes away on its own. If appendicitis worsens, however the best treatment is surgery to remove the appendix which is called an appendectomy.
Small bladder disease
Small bladder disease occurs when bladder muscles (detrusor) and/or the bladder sphincter muscles become overactive and as a result there is a constant need to void. It can manifest as urinary frequency, urinary incontinence, and urinary tract infections. Voiding dysfunction can be caused by various factors, including behavioral patterns, physical factors, and underlying conditions.
Endosteal disease
Endosteal disease refers to conditions involving the inner surface of the bone cortex called the endosteum. This can include endosteal hyperostosis, a rare condition characterized by the abnormal thickening of the inner layer of bone tissue, leading to excessive bone growth. Surgery is a treatment performed to correct deformities or relieve nerve compression.

Neonatal Surgery
This includes a wide range of surgical procedures performed on newborns, such as:

• Hernias - swelling of the abdominal wall, which can cause bowel obstructions. Bowel obstructions are due to congenital detections that may require emergency surgery. There are two types of pediatric hernias: inguinal (occurring in the groin area) and umbilical (occurring at the belly button).

• Esophageal Atresia - a malformation of the esophagus (the tube that connects the mouth to the stomach), which at times has an abnormal connection to the trachea (the tube that allows us to breathe).
Gastrointestinal Surgery
A range of surgical procedures performed on the organs and structure of the gastrointestinal tract, such as:

• Blockages in the abdominal wall are birth defects for newborns and children under three years of age caused by adhesions, hernias, or tumors.

• Intestinal malrotation occurs when the intestines of a newborn aren’t in the proper position within the belly, due to them not fully rotating as they form.
Pediatric Endocrine Surgery
Treatment of endocrine gland disorders in children, such as:

• Ovarian cysts- sacs filled with fluid in or on the ovaries caused by fluctuating hormone levels in young girls and maternal hormone influences in newborns.
Pediatric Thyroid Surgery
A treatment option for children with thyroid cancer, thyroid nodules, or a thyroid disorder that doesn’t respond to other treatments. It can include:

• Thyroid glacis cysts- fluid-filled sacs that form within the thyroid gland that vary in size.

• Thyroidectomy- a surgical procedure that removes all or part of your thyroid gland.

Thoracoscopic Surgery
Surgical procedures that are used to treat conditions within the chest cavity, such as:

• Releases entrapped lungs and other chest infections.

• Pleurodesis drains the extra fluid from the pleural space in the lungs.
