Breast Feeding Education Program
Jamaica Hospital Medical Center is currently offering a breastfeeding education program. This program is offered every Monday between the hours of 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM. This program is given at the Women’s Health Center, 133-03 Jamaica Avenue. The program is taught by one of our certified midwives and is intended to familiarize mothers to be with proper breastfeeding techniques. Classes are limited to eight women per session. Classes are also available in Spanish. For the convenience of women who have recently given birth and who may be experiencing difficulty breastfeeding, a limited number of seats are available to walk-ins.
To schedule a breastfeeding education session or for further information, please call 718-291-3276.
Jamaica Hospital Mother’s Nursing Room
Jamaica Hospital Medical Center encourages and supports a mother’s decision to breastfeed. As part of our commitment to providing breastfeeding moms with valuable resources, we now offer a Mother’s Nursing Room on the ground floor of the main hospital. The two-station room allows women more privacy to feed their babies in a clean and spacious environment. It is our policy that any employee or member of the community who needs to express breast milk or breastfeed their infant will have access to this room. We welcome you to visit our admitting office to request the keys to our Mother’s Nursing Room.
Pulmonary Support Group
Jamaica Hospital Medical Center offers a Pulmonary Support Group known as the “Positive Breathers”. The group meets on the third Wednesday of the month (except July and August) from noon – 2:00 PM. Meetings are held in Auditorium 2 of the (old) Trump building which is located at 90-28 Van Wyck Expressway. The group is open to the public. This is a support group for anyone who has been diagnosed with a chronic pulmonary condition as well as their caregivers. At each meeting there is a lecture on various topics related to one’s well being and good health and a light lunch is also offered. Recent topics have included vaccinations, oxygen saturation, latest medications for COPD and understanding blood test results. The “Positive Breathers” support group is a place to share experiences, fears, hopes and ideas with people who have the same concerns as well as to learn and improve one’s health and well being.
