The Cardiology Department at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center provides a wide range of cardiovascular services for patients with known or suspected heart disease, on both an inpatient and outpatient basis.
Recognized as a leader in the field of cardiology, we have earned many merits for outstanding cardiac care and uphold the high standards of the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology.
As part of our commitment to providing patients with the highest quality of care, the Cardiology Department at Jamaica Hospital utilizes state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and offers effective disease management services; some of which include:
Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory
Equipped with the latest testing and diagnostic technologies, our cardiac catheterization lab is utilized by highly trained specialists to perform procedures such as elective cardiac catheterizations, angiograms and percutaneous coronary artery inventions.
Utilizing technologies such as electrophysiologic testing and automated implantable cardioverter defibrillators (AICDs), our experts have the ability to efficiently diagnose and care for patients with abnormal heart rhythms.
Full Non-Invasive Laboratory Services
Tests performed in our lab include:
- Electrocardiograms, which allow the electrical activity of the heart to be examined
- Echocardiograms, which use sound waves to take pictures of the heart to assess how it is working (both transthoracic and transesophageal)
- Stress tests, both chemical and exercise, with and without imaging modalities (nuclear and echocardiographic) to assess the blood flow to the heart and the function of the heart with exercise
- Holter monitors
- Event recorders
- Tilt table testing
- Nuclear wall motion studies
- Signal-averaging electrocardiography
- Pacemaker evaluation
- Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring
Advanced CT Scanner
Our newly installed advanced CT Scanner, a non-invasive imaging system, allows physicians the ability to obtain diagnostic digital images in less than 10 seconds. The speed of the scanner minimizes motion and because the slices are much thinner than before, clearer and more accurate images are produced. The CT Scanner is used by the department to provide detailed images of the structure and anatomy of the heart as well as detailed images of the coronary arteries for patients with heart disease.
