Bronchial Thermoplasty

Jamaica Hospital is one of the few hospitals in Queens and the entire NYC area to offer bronchial thermoplasty to patients suffering from severe asthma.

Bronchial thermoplasty is the first-ever non-drug therapy being used to treat individuals who are at least 18 years old and whose asthma is not well controlled with inhaled corticosteroids and long-acting beta agonists, despite using their pulmonary medicine as instructed.

This innovative and minimally invasive procedure uses thermal energy to permanently heat and shrink thickened muscle that surrounds airways. The treatment is done in three sessions, performed three weeks apart.

Bronchial thermoplasty is used along with asthma medications and can improve patients’ quality of life.

Pirfenidone Treatment & Idiopathic Fibrosis Medications

Jamaica Hospital is one of only a handful of hospitals in Queens and the Greater NYC area offering this promising pulmonary medicine for people living with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF).

Pirfenidone treatment is used to slow disease progression by reducing immune system activity and blocking natural substances in the body that cause fibrosis (scarring), effectively slowing the decline in lung function and improving survival.

Jamaica Hospital’s NY pulmonologists can help you decide if pirfenidone treatment is right for you.
