Colon Cancer Screening

Colon cancer, or colorectal cancer, is the fourth most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States.
According to the American Cancer Society, while there is no sure way of preventing colon cancer, screening can find abnormal cells early before they become cancer, significantly improving patient outcomes.
The US Preventive Services Task Force recommends that adults aged 45 to 75 be screened for colorectal cancer. Although screening is strongly recommended for everyone within this group, some communities experience lower rates of screening and poorer outcomes due to disparities such as lack of awareness and access to healthcare.
Jamaica Hospital aims to address these issues through education and by offering colon cancer screening options to patients in our community. This includes colonoscopies performed in a clinical setting and convenient home-screening test kits.
If colon cancer is diagnosed, our cancer provides holistic treatment and services that support the physical, mental, and emotional health of our patients. To learn more about the services we provide, please click here.
