Program Director, Psychiatry Residency Training Program

Pratik Jain, M.D.

Assistant Chair, Inpatient Psychiatry

Pratik Jain, MD, is a board-certified psychiatrist who serves as Program Director of the Psychiatry Residency Training Program and Assistant Chair of Inpatient Psychiatry at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. A graduate of Jamaica Hospital’s Psychiatry Residency Program, Dr. Jain returned to the institution following subspecialty fellowship training and now holds leadership roles in both graduate medical education and clinical operations within the Department of Psychiatry.

As Program Director, Dr. Jain leads Jamaica Hospital’s 28-resident Psychiatry Residency Training Program. He oversees resident education, clinical supervision, curriculum development, evaluation, faculty development, accreditation, and overall program operations. His educational interests include developing clinical judgment, progressive autonomy, professionalism, and preparing psychiatrists to care for the diverse communities served by Jamaica Hospital.

As Assistant Chair of Inpatient Psychiatry, Dr. Jain provides physician leadership for the hospital’s inpatient psychiatric services and is actively involved in clinical operations, patient safety, regulatory compliance, and performance improvement. His quality-improvement work has addressed inpatient safety, psychiatric emergency department length of stay, clinical documentation, regulatory compliance, and coordination of psychiatric care across hospital services.

Dr. Jain has a particular interest in using technology and systems-based interventions to improve psychiatric care. Working with hospital information technology and Epic teams, he developed a real-time operational dashboard for Jamaica Hospital’s Mental Health Clinic to improve patient flow, identify documentation and regulatory gaps, and support clinical operations. The model was subsequently expanded to Flushing Hospital and additional clinical sites.

Dr. Jain also served as principal investigator of an IRB-approved initiative evaluating standardized psychiatric documentation templates. The project achieved widespread clinical adoption and was awarded First Place in Empirical Research at the 5th Annual Jamaica Hospital Medical Center Research Day in 2026.

Dr. Jain earned his medical degree with honors from the Medical University of Lublin in Poland. He completed his Psychiatry Residency at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, followed by fellowship training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Virginia Commonwealth University and an ACGME-accredited fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine.

He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in both General Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. His clinical experience encompasses inpatient, outpatient, emergency, consultation-liaison, child and adolescent, forensic, and community psychiatry.

Dr. Jain is also actively involved in undergraduate and graduate medical education. He holds academic appointments as Clinical Assistant Professor at Ross University School of Medicine and Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor at the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine and teaches and evaluates medical students and residents throughout the year.
