Jamaica Hospital Medical Center is one of the 250 best hospitals in the United States and a level-one trauma center, located in southern Queens, NY. Flushing Hospital is a community hospital in Northern Queens. These are the major sites for Psychiatry Residency Training. The location of these medical centers – located in the most culturally diverse county in the nation and close to both major NYC airports – makes them the ideal places in which to master the study of Psychiatry.

The four-year residency program is fully accredited by the ACGME. The variety of pathology, culture, language, and treatment modalities helps residents prepare for their future Psychiatric careers, no matter where they are.

Skills are developed through a carefully-planned sequence of training experiences and didactic course work in our hospitals and community clinics. Unique experiences include work on our Chemical Dependency Unit to give residents exposure to detoxing patients from a variety of substances, as well rotating at Reflections, our outpatient addictions clinic. Other experiences include working with our Mobile Crisis Team, evaluating patients where they live, Geriatric Psychiatry at our on-site nursing facility, and Forensic Psychiatry with the Queens Court System. Residents work with our Wellness team, helping other residents, employees, and patients deal with work/life issues.

The MediSys Health Network’s new collaboration with Memorial Sloan Kettering will provide an opportunity for our residents to learn about and gain experience in Psycho-oncology.

Elective time is allotted so each trainee can tailor the program to her/his own interests. Research opportunities abound with our expanding research department and collaboration with the Psychology department at St. John’s University. Our excellent psychiatric care and dedication to teaching is reflected in the thanks and praise from our patients as well as from the community.
