Welcome to Graduate Medical Education
All of us at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center are committed to maintaining the highest standards of scholarship and teaching, and to the delivery of excellent and compassionate medical care to all we serve. These goals are reflected in every aspect of the training experience we offer to our trainees.
Because training is central to our mission, every effort is made to provide hands-on clinical experience and didactic teaching. We encourage and support scholarly activity, including research, and will make physician opportunities, which are an integral part of our teaching programs, available to residents. Jamaica Hospital also offers sponsored residency and fellowship programs.
The Department of Medical Education provides administrative oversight for all Undergraduate and Graduate Medical Education programs. The office is responsible for obtaining and processing immigration documentation and managing and issuing pagers, uniforms, parking permits, lockers and other necessities for both undergraduate and post-graduate medical trainees. The office of Medical Education tracks and retains all house staff schedules, maintains files on all residents and medical students, and interacts regularly with the Committee on Interns and Residents about benefits, wages, and other contractual matters. The office is also responsible for the drafting of all resident academic year agreements and all GME related educational affiliation and rotation agreements. We provide support to all of our residency programs in the accreditation survey process and maintain an open door policy to all of our undergraduate and post-graduate trainees.
Jamaica Hospital’s various Graduate Medical Education programs also provide our Residents with many opportunities to showcase their educational research projects. To view examples of some past presentations, please visit our specially designated research website at http://medisysresearch.org/
