Welcome to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center’s Pulmonary Fellowship Program. I have been the Director of the Pulmonary Division for 30 years. Over that time, I have watched its growth in terms of the services, quality of care, and new technologies that we provide. I am very proud to say that since its inception over 10 years ago, the program has graduated fellows who have gone on to distinguish themselves in the practice of pulmonary and critical care medicine in a variety of settings across the country. Our graduates have a first-time pass rate of over 95% on the pulmonary medicine boards. Most of them move on to fellowships in critical care medicine or sleep medicine, while others begin careers in private practice. Several of our fellows have rejoined our team here at the hospital.

As a fellow, you will find this program to be a rich source of hands-on pulmonary medicine experience. Our hospital provides a variety of services including outpatient chest and sleep clinics, a sleep laboratory, pulmonary inpatient consultation service and intensive care unit, bronchoscopy (including endobronchial ultrasound), and a pulmonary function laboratory. All of these services are important aspects of the comprehensive pulmonary care we provide to the Queens community. The fellowship also offers several outside electives that I feel round out the educational experience. We also have a long-standing, close working relationship with the hospital’s research department, which has led to collaboration on many different and interesting projects and studies. The research department is currently undergoing an exciting expansion and I expect to see even more activity that will benefit the experience of our fellows.

The hospital recently established a collaboration with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan. We look forward to seeing this develop and expect it to enrich the clinical experience of our fellows.

I am dedicated to making sure that your time with us provides a valuable and rewarding learning experience. I hope you will find the rest of the information on this website useful. We are always available to answer any questions you may have.
