Dr. Craig Thurm

Dr. Khalid Gafoor
Director, Medical ICU
Dr. Gafoor has been working at TJH Medical Services and Jamaica Hospital since 2018 and is currently serving as the director of the medical ICU and the associate program director of the pulmonary medicine fellowship. He is board-certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine, critical care medicine and neuro-critical care medicine. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians. His interests outside of medicine include New York sports and perfecting his pour-over coffee technique.
Dr. Umma Kulsum
Dr. Umma Kulsum was born in Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh. She began her medical studies early at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, the top medical school in Bangladesh, after a very competitive examination. She later completed an internship there, as well.
Dr. Samir Sarkar
Dr. Sarkar has worked in TJH Medical Services and Jamaica Hospital since 2004 and is currently an attending physician in pulmonary and critical care medicine. He is board-certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine, and critical care medicine. He has published a number of articles in peer-reviewed journals. His outside interests include yoga and meditation.

Dr. Martin Hoffman
Dr. Hoffman graduated from the NYU School of Medicine in 1977. He completed an internship and residency at Long Island Jewish Medical Center from 1977 to 1980 and a pulmonary fellowship at Montefiore Hospital/Albert Einstein College of Medicine from 1980 to 1982. He later served at the Chief Medical Resident at Long Island Jewish Medical Center from 1982 to 1983. He served as the Director of the Medical ICU at Long Island Jewish Forest Hills. He is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians.
Dr. Mayank Shukla
Dr. Mayank Shukla is board-certified in pediatric pulmonology and sleep medicine. He earned his medical degree from the Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College in Mumbai and completed a pediatrics fellowship at Brookdale University Hospital in Brooklyn. He then completed fellowships in sleep medicine as well as pediatric pulmonology and pediatric critical care medicine at the University of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis.
Dr. Chuan Jiang
Dr. Chuan Jiang is board-certified in pulmonary disease, internal medicine, nephrology, and obesity medicine. He obtained his medical degree from Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and later completed his internal medicine residency at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra. He completed the pulmonary fellowship program at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center and an additional fellowship in nephrology at Lenox Hill Hospital. Dr. Jiang currently works with Jamaica Hospital’s pulmonary fellowship program as a voluntary attending physician.
