In addition to patients with primary psychiatric conditions, Fellows will treat patients with psychiatric disorders due to medical illnesses, delirium, dementia, somatic symptom and related disorders, and pain disorders. Fellows will be able to evaluate patients with a variety of psychiatric complications of medical illnesses and their treatments.

They will assess patients for capacity to consent or refuse procedures and make other decisions. Fellows will gain experience in treating patients with pharmacological and nonpharmacological means. They will work with physicians of various medical specialties, as well as with other members of the multidisciplinary treatment team. Fellows will have the opportunity to teach other physicians and trainees, including Psychiatry Residents, and help integrate good psychological health for patients treated in the medical setting.

Electives are also available in Psycho-oncology through our collaboration with Memorial Sloan Kettering. Residents may attend classes and conferences virtually or in-person. They have the opportunities to work in Psycho-oncology, both in the Jamaica and Manhattan locations.
