Residency Program Obstetrics & Gynecology
Welcome to Jamaica Hospital’s Obstetrics & Gynecology Residency Program
Welcome to our OB/GYN Residency Program! We appreciate your interest and are excited to provide you with information that will inspire you to explore our program further. Jamaica Hospital Medical Center (JHMC) in Queens, New York, has a long history of producing skilled and compassionate OB/GYNs who are well-prepared for clinical practice or advanced fellowship training. As a Level 1 trauma center and safety net hospital, JHMC serves a large number of Medicaid and uninsured patients. We take pride in caring for our culturally diverse patient population, a diversity that is also reflected in our faculty and staff.
OB/GYN residents are an integral part of our hospital community, providing comprehensive care across the full spectrum of OB/GYN patients while working closely with departments such as Emergency Medicine, Anesthesia, and General Surgery. The small size of our program fosters a collaborative environment and close mentoring relationships with our dedicated faculty.
Our clinical training is primarily conducted on JHMC campus, with additional rotations at affiliated institutions such as Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (for GYN-ONC) and Global Fertility and Genetics (for REI). We also offer flexibility in scheduling external rotations to support residents in their pursuit of further career development. Our residents benefit from high levels of autonomy and gain extensive ambulatory experience, including training in office hysteroscopy, colposcopy, LEEP, GYN and OB ultrasound, and breast clinic procedures.
The educational curriculum features weekly grand rounds, a cultural competency curriculum, weekly preoperative conferences, and monthly case reviews for both OB and GYN. We also conduct monthly OB and GYN statistics reviews to further enhance resident education and prepare them for the Oral Boards Exam. Additionally, our program offers a robust simulation curriculum, integrated into both didactic sessions and Labor Floor activities, to enhance multidisciplinary teamwork and clinical performance. The OB/GYN department is affiliated with NYIT and Ross Medical Schools, where our residents play a crucial role in educating medical students on the floor, in the OR and in clinic, conducting collaborative research, including quality improvement (QI) and performance improvement (PI) projects.
Training at Jamaica Hospital will equip you for independent practice anywhere. If your calling is to serve the underserved and immigrant communities, work on the frontlines, make independent decisions, and be part of a diverse team, our program offers all of that and more.
