Our new board certified/eligible Emergency Medicine physicians have completed an Emergency Medicine Residency Program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and are experts in the recognition and management of life-threatening medical and traumatic issues.

 

Anthony Almeida M.D.

Dr. Anthony Almeida is an Emergency Medicine physician at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. Originally from Brooklyn, he attended Hofstra University for his undergraduate studies. Thereafter, he attended medical school at New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at New York Medical College-Metropolitan/Harlem in Manhattan, NY. His clinical interests include disaster and wilderness medicine.

Austin Choi M.D.

Dr. Anthony Almeida is an Emergency Medicine physician at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. Originally from Brooklyn, he attended Hofstra University for his undergraduate studies. Abhujeet Kaur M.D.

Dr. Abhujeet Kaur is a board-certified Emergency Medicine physician at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. She graduated medical school from Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine, and completed her emergency medicine residency at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark, NJ. She works actively within our department’s efforts of Quality Improvement, Peer Review and Community Outreach. Her clinical interests include International Medicine.

Melvin Ku M.D.

Dr. Melvin Ku is a board certified Emergency Medicine Physician, and the Assistant Director of Emergency Medicine Ultrasound at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. Born and raised in California, he attended UCLA for undergraduate and graduate studies. He completed his medical school at Michigan State University, and his emergency medicine residency at SUNY Upstate in Syracuse, NY. He matched into the Mount Sinai St. Lukes-West Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship, and has practiced in New York ever since. His clinical interests include ultrasound education and sepsis.

Susan Philipose M.D.

Dr. Susan Philipose is a board-certified Emergency Medicine Physician, and the Chairperson of the Emergency Department Peer Review Committee at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. She graduated medical school from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, MA. She then completed her Emergency Medicine residency at Northwell-LIJ in Queens, NY. Her clinical interests include Women’s Health, Disaster and International Medicine.

Wing Tom M.D.

Dr. Wing Tom is an Emergency Medicine Physician at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. He graduated medical school from St. George’s University, and completed his emergency medicine residency at Brooklyn Hospital Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. His clinical interests in ultrasound have led him to complete an ultrasound fellowship through Ultrasound Leadership Academy.

John Vega M.D.

Dr. John Vega is a board-certified Emergency Medicine Physician, and the Director of Medical Simulation at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. He completed his medical school at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. Afterwards, he completed his Emergency Medicine residency at SUNY Downstate/Kings County in Brooklyn, NY. He pursued a fellowship in Medical Simulation at Mount Sinai St. Lukes-West. His clinical interests include quality improvement, clinical outcomes, and optimizing institutional processes
