Our new board certified/eligible Emergency Medicine physicians have completed an Emergency Medicine Residency Program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and are experts in the recognition and management of life-threatening medical and traumatic issues.
Dr. Anthony Almeida
Dr. Anthony Almeida is an Emergency Medicine physician at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. Originally from Brooklyn, he attended Hofstra University for his undergraduate studies. Thereafter, he attended medical school at New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at New York Medical College-Metropolitan/Harlem in Manhattan, NY. His clinical interests include disaster and wilderness medicine.
Dr. Morgan Chen
Dr. Morgan Chen is an Emergency Physician at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. Originally from California, he attended the University of California – Irvine, graduated from medical school at St. George’s University, and completed his emergency medicine residency training at Lincoln Hospital in Bronx, NY.
Dr. Austin Choi
Dr. Austin Choi is an Emergency Medicine Physician at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. He completed his undergraduate and graduate pharmacy studies at Rutgers, before attending medical school at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine in NYC. Afterwards, he completed his emergency medicine residency at NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan. His clinical interests include toxicology and ultrasound.
Dr. Abhujeet Kaur
Dr. Abhujeet Kaur is a board-certified Emergency Medicine physician at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. She graduated medical school from Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine, and completed her emergency medicine residency at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark, NJ. She works actively within our department’s efforts of Quality Improvement, Peer Review and Community Outreach. Her clinical interests include International Medicine.
Dr. Lauryn Kosturko
Dr. Lauryn Kosturko is a double Board-certified Emergency Medicine physician in Emergency Medicine and Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and the Associate Director of Prehospital Care at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. She completed her emergency medicine residency at Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark, NJ. Afterwards, she completed her fellowship training in EMS and Disaster Medicine with the Fire Department of New York (FDNY)/Northwell Health.
Dr. Melvin Ku
Dr. Melvin Ku is a board certified Emergency Medicine Physician, and the Assistant Director of Emergency Medicine Ultrasound at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. Born and raised in California, he attended UCLA for undergraduate and graduate studies. He completed his medical school at Michigan State University, and his emergency medicine residency at SUNY Upstate in Syracuse, NY. He matched into the Mount Sinai St. Lukes-West Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship, and has practiced in New York ever since. His clinical interests include ultrasound education and sepsis.
Dr. Susan Philipose
Dr. Susan Philipose is a board-certified Emergency Medicine Physician, and the Chairperson of the Emergency Department Peer Review Committee at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. She graduated medical school from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, MA. She then completed her Emergency Medicine residency at Northwell-LIJ in Queens, NY. Her clinical interests include Women’s Health, Disaster and International Medicine.
Dr. Celine Thum
Dr. Celine Thum is a board certified Emergency Physician and the Director of Emergency Medicine Ultrasound at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. Prior to her medical career, Dr. Thum was a collegiate and nationally ranked badminton player as well as a concert violinist. She completed her residency in Emergency Medicine at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY after graduating medical school at Rush Medical College in Chicago, IL. Aside from her hospital duties, Dr. Thum is a Ringside Physician for USA Boxing and the New York State Athletic Commission and serves as medical director for ParaDocs Worldwide providing on-site emergency medical services at major sporting events and music festivals.
Dr. Wing Tom
Dr. Wing Tom is an Emergency Medicine Physician at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. He graduated medical school from St. George’s University, and completed his emergency medicine residency at Brooklyn Hospital Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. His clinical interests in ultrasound have led him to complete an ultrasound fellowship through Ultrasound Leadership Academy.
Dr. John Vega
Dr. John Vega is a board-certified Emergency Medicine Physician, and the Director of Medical Simulation at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. He completed his medical school at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. Afterwards, he completed his Emergency Medicine residency at SUNY Downstate/Kings County in Brooklyn, NY. He pursued a fellowship in Medical Simulation at Mount Sinai St. Lukes-West. His clinical interests include quality improvement, clinical outcomes, and optimizing institutional processes.
Dr. Nathan Washburn
Dr. Nathan Washburn is a board-certified Emergency Medicine Physician at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. He graduated medical school from New York Institute of Technology’s College of Osteopathic Medicine in New York, NY. He completed his emergency medicine residency at St. Barnabas Hospital in Bronx, NY. Dr. Washburn’s efforts have been instrumental in the development of our geriatric-specific unit within our Emergency Department, and he continues to play an active role in its updates and various initiatives.
