Audiology

Audiologists are licensed professionals who diagnose and treat all populations with hearing loss, allowing them to improve their overall ability to communicate effectively. These populations range from newborns to adults of all ages, with specialized services depending on age and cognitive level. Audiologists also examine and diagnose several balance issues.

Audiologists have the expertise to work with special needs populations and work frequently in conjunction with Otolaryngologists, Pediatricians, and Speech Pathologists in a variety of settings.

The Audiology Department at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center specializes in diagnosing hearing and balance impairments, as well as overseeing and implementing the Newborn Hearing Screening program for all infants born in the hospital.
