This number is rising daily as age restrictions lower\nfor those eligible to receive the vaccine are announced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Still, the COVID-19 vaccine\ncontinues to be questioned by many members of our community. Jamaica Hospital\nMedical Center is sharing the following information from the Centers for\nDisease Control and Prevention (CDC) to answer them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some commonly asked\nquestions that people are asking:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Is the vaccine safe? The\nvaccines that are being distributed have undergone rigorous testing and have\nmet the safety standards set forth by the CDC and the Food and Drug\nAdministration (FDA).<\/li><li>Are there any side\neffects of this vaccine? The known side effects of the vaccines currently being\ndistributed include soreness in the arm in which the vaccine was administered\nand some people have developed low grade fevers. Both of these only lasted less\nthan 48 hours. There may be other side effects that we aren\u2019t aware of yet.<\/li><li>Will the vaccine\nprevent me from getting COVID-19 ? This vaccine, like all other vaccines, will\nlessen the chances of getting the virus but is not 100 percent guaranteed to be\neffective for everyone.<\/li><li>How long will the\nvaccine be effective for? Until more time has passed and more people have been\nvaccinated, the CDC is not sure how long the vaccine will be effective for.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Most recently, there\nhas been another question added which is: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Will there be a need\nfor a third dose (booster) of the vaccine to maintain effectiveness? According\nto a recent CNBC report, Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla said, \u201cPeople \u201clikely\u201d need a\na booster dose within 12 months of getting fully vaccinated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although\nthe \u201cbooster\u201d vaccine is not currently available, it is hopeful that it will be\navailable sometime this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jamaica\nHospital Medical Center is committed to vaccinating member of its staff and the\ncommunity with the hope of vaccinating enough of the population to finally\neradicate this deadly virus.<\/p>\n<p class=\"disclaimer\">All content of this newsletter is intended for general information purposes only and is not intended or implied to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.
