The American Association of Poison Control\nCenters reports that 93 percent of poisonings occur in the home, 45 percent\ninvolve children under the age of six and the majority of fatal poisonings\noccur in older adults.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are several ways that some poisonings can be\nprevented. These include keeping all chemicals out of reach from children,\nreading dosages and labels on all medications, and knowing how certain\nmedications react when taken together. Here are a few basic steps to take if a\npoisoning takes place:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For inhaled poison get the person fresh air immediately<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For skin poison take off the person\u2019s clothes and rinse skin\nwith fresh water for 15 \u2013 20 minutes <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For poison in the eyes, rinse the eyes out with fresh water\nfor 15 \u2013 20 minutes<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For an overdose of medicine, call 9-1-1 &nbsp;immediately<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In all cases of poisoning, contact the local poison control\ncenter at 1-800-222-1222.
