Nearly 30% of adults living in the United States are affected at\nsome point in their lives.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are four main types of anxiety disorder, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Generalized anxiety disorder<\/li><li>Social anxiety disorder (social phobia)<\/li><li>Specific phobias <\/li><li>Separation anxiety disorder<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It is important to note that it is possible to have one or\nmore anxiety disorder. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The causes of anxiety disorders are not fully understood; however, there are certain risk factors believed to contribute to developing them.\u00a0 General risk factors include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Exposure to negative or stressful life events in early childhood or adulthood <\/li><li>A family history of anxiety disorders or other mental illnesses<\/li><li>Having certain health conditions such as heart arrhythmias or thyroid problems<\/li><li>Taking certain medications that can aggravate symptoms<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For those living with any type of anxiety disorder, feelings\nof excessive worry, fear, apprehension or nervousness are often difficult to\ncontrol and can interfere with daily activities. These feelings can also lead\nto physical symptoms such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>An increased heart rate <\/li><li>Trouble concentrating <\/li><li>Gastrointestinal problems<\/li><li>Sweating <\/li><li>Hyperventilating <\/li><li>Having difficulty sleeping <\/li><li>Fatigue<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are finding it difficult to control anxiety, and\nsymptoms are affecting your health or ability to live a normal life, please\nseek help.&nbsp; A mental health specialist\ncan conduct a psychological evaluation to help determine a diagnosis.
