This is typically achieved by\npracticing unhealthy weight loss habits such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Exercising excessively<\/li><li>Severely restricting the amount of food consumed\n<\/li><li>Vomiting after eating<\/li><li>Misusing, diuretics, laxatives or diet aides<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The symptoms of anorexia nervosa can be physical, emotional or\nbehavioral, and may vary from person to person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Physical symptoms can include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Extreme weight loss<\/li><li>Severe loss of muscle mass <\/li><li>Fatigue <\/li><li>Thinning hair or hair that breaks easily <\/li><li>Fainting or dizziness <\/li><li>Infertility <\/li><li>Lanugo- soft, downy hair that covers the body<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Emotional and behavioral symptoms may include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>An unhealthy preoccupation with food <\/li><li>Excessive concern about &nbsp;being overweight <\/li><li>Adopting eating rituals such as chewing food and\nspitting it out<\/li><li>Lying about food intake <\/li><li>Avoiding eating in public <\/li><li>Repeated weighing or measuring of the body<\/li><li>Social withdrawal<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Most individuals with anorexia nervosa hesitate to seek help\nbecause their desire to stay thin often outweighs their concerns for being\nhealthy. However, anorexia nervosa can be life-threatening, so it is important\nthat they receive the immediate care of physicians and mental health experts to\nhelp with overcoming this condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The diagnosis of anorexia nervosa generally includes\nphysical exams, lab tests and psychological evaluations. &nbsp;Treatment is often administered by a team of\nhealthcare professionals who are experienced in dealing with eating disorders\nsuch as a primary care doctor, dietitian and psychologist.&nbsp; A care plan may include medication, psychotherapy\nand nutrition education.<\/p>\n<p class=\"disclaimer\">All content of this newsletter is intended for general information purposes only and is not intended or implied to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.
