The benefits of\nbreastfeeding are numerous. Breast milk contains nutrients that are vital to an\ninfant\u2019s growth and development and protects them against many childhood\nillnesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The MediSys Health\nNetwork understands the important role we play in providing breastfeeding\neducation and support to our community. We have many programs and initiatives\nin place that encourage breastfeeding and skilled staff committed to helping new\nmothers through the breastfeeding process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The network\u2019s\ndedication to promoting breastfeeding was recently highlighted when the Centers\nfor Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released the results of their most\nrecent Maternity Practices in Infant Nutrition and Care (mPINC) survey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mPINC survey is\nreleased every two years and is intended to highlight strengths and identify\nimprovement opportunities in hospitals\u2019 infant feeding practices. Over 2,000\nhospitals across the United States participated in the most survey which contains\nmany newborn feeding practice sub-categories including: rooming-in, feeding\neducation, and discharge support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each hospital that\nparticipated in the survey received a numeric grade as well as the average national\nand regional grades of other hospitals and the average grades of similar sized\nhospitals, (hospitals with between 2,000 -4,999 births per year). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The average national\nscore for hospitals was a 79, the average regional score (northeast) was an 84,\nand the average score for similar-sized hospitals was an 83. We are pleased to\nannounce that both MediSys hospitals exceeded each of these rating categories\nwith Jamaica Hospital receiving a total score of 93 and Flushing Hospital earning\na score of 96.\n\nThese scores demonstrate of the network\u2019s commitment to providing the\nhighest-quality pre-natal and mother baby care to families. Congratulations to\nall who helped us achieve this level of success\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n
