Probably not many of us have. Sleepwalking,\nor as it is known in medical terms, somnambulism, actually does exist. It is\nmore common in children, but adults can experience it as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most people won\u2019t remember when they were sleepwalking. This\nis because sleep walking typically occurs during a deep stage of sleep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A few of the causes of sleep walking are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Stress<\/li><li>Fever<\/li><li>Change in sleep schedule<\/li><li>Lack of sleep<\/li><li>Substance abuse<\/li><li>Taking certain medications<\/li><li>Gastroesophageal reflux disease<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Medical conditions that can lead to sleepwalking are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Nighttime seizures<\/li><li>Migraines<\/li><li>Heartburn<\/li><li>Heart rhythm problems<\/li><li>Restless leg syndrome<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Diagnosing sleepwalking starts with doing a physical exam\nwhich may be accompanied by a sleep study in a specialized lab. Sensors will\nmonitor breathing patterns oxygen levels, brain waves, eye and leg movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Treating sleepwalking is based upon the cause and may\ninclude antidepressants, as well as adjusting prescribed medications that the\npatient is taking already. People who sleep walk should avoid drinking alcohol,\nbe in a stress free environment and &nbsp;get\na good night\u2019s sleep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If someone you know tends to walk in their sleep it is a\ncommon misconception that they shouldn\u2019t be awakened. It is important to make\ntheir environment safe so that they don\u2019t hurt themselves and doors and windows\nshould be locked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If someone you know tends to walk in their sleep it is\nimportant to make the environment safe so that they don\u2019t hurt themselves.
