{"id":3028,"date":"2016-02-09T18:35:43","date_gmt":"2016-02-09T18:35:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jamaicahospital.org\/newsletter\/?p=3028"},"modified":"2024-05-09T03:34:06","modified_gmt":"2024-05-09T03:34:06","slug":"grandmas-chicken-soup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jamaicahospital.org\/newsletter\/grandmas-chicken-soup\/","title":{"rendered":"Grandma&#8217;s Chicken Soup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>When you have a cold or flu, it is best to keep hydrated and drink at least eight glasses of fluid a day.\u00a0 A great way to keep hydrated, help relieve the symptomscongested nose and sore throat is to eat chicken soup.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers believe that substances in chicken soup can help reduce the inflammation associated with a cold or flu.<\/p>\n<p>If you would like to test the effects of chicken soup on your cold or flu you may want to try<\/p>\n<p>Grandma\u2019s Chicken Noodle Soup Recipe \u2013<\/p>\n<p>Ingredients:<\/p>\n<p>2 \u00bd cups wide egg noodles<\/p>\n<p>1 teaspoon vegetable oil<\/p>\n<p>12 cups chicken broth<\/p>\n<p>1 \u00bd tablespoons salt<\/p>\n<p>1 teaspoon poultry seasoning<\/p>\n<p>1 cup chopped celery<\/p>\n<p>1 cup diced carrots<\/p>\n<p>1 cup chopped onion<\/p>\n<p>1\/3 cup cornstarch<\/p>\n<p>\u00bc cup water<\/p>\n<p>3 cups diced, cooked chicken meat<\/p>\n<p>Directions:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Bring large pot of lightly salted water to a boil.\u00a0 Add egg noodles and oil, boil for 8 minutes, or until tender.\u00a0 Drain and rinse under cool running water.<\/li>\n<li>In a large saucepan or Dutch oven, combine broth, salt, and poultry seasoning.\u00a0 Bring to a boil.\u00a0 Stir in celery and onion.\u00a0 Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 15 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>In a small bowl, mix cornstarch and water together until cornstarch is completely dissolved.
