\"\"<\/a>February 2026\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Jamaica Hospital Medical Center\u00a0is pleased to announce\u00a0that it is the first hospital in Queens to offer\u00a0a new renal denervation (RDN) procedure\u00a0to treat\u00a0certain patients with high blood pressure.\u00a0The hospital\u2019s cardiology team recently and successfully completed its first case.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in November 2023, the Symplicity Spyral\u2122 renal denervation (RDN) system involves a minimally invasive procedure that targets nerves near the kidneys that can become overactive, causing high blood pressure. The procedure \u2013 also known as the Symplicity\u2122 blood pressure procedure – is approved for use as an adjunctive treatment in patients with high blood pressure (or hypertension) when lifestyle changes and antihypertensive medications do not adequately control blood pressure.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Hypertension is the single largest contributor to death, and affects about 50% of U.S. adults. Of the U.S. adults who are aware of their hypertension, about 80% do not have it under control.<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0Symplicity\u00a0blood pressure procedure is clinically proven to help reduce high blood pressure,\u00a0which can lower serious health risks.\u00a0After mild sedation, the doctor inserts a very thin tube into the artery leading to the kidney. The doctor then administers energy to calm the excessive activity of the nerves connected to the kidney. The tube is removed, leaving no implant behind.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

High blood pressure is a significant issue for patients worldwide. For people with hypertension, medication and\/or lifestyle changes can help reduce blood pressure, but studies have shown that many people still don\u2019t have control over their condition.
