This leads to watery secretions that drip from your nose and sometimes down the back of your throat.<\/p>\n<p>A runny nose can occur with or without nasal congestion. Nasal congestion is caused by inflammation of the lining of your nasal passages. Many things can cause a temporary runny nose, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Viruses<\/li>\n<li>Cold weather<\/li>\n<li>Sinusitis<\/li>\n<li>Certain foods and drinks<\/li>\n<li>Exercise<\/li>\n<li>Medications<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Some causes of long-lasting or recurring runny noses include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Allergies<\/li>\n<li>Hormones<\/li>\n<li>Nasal polyps<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you don\u2019t have any other symptoms, there are several ways to manage a runny nose at home with self-care options, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Drinking plenty of fluids<\/li>\n<li>Drinking hot teas<\/li>\n<li>Using a humidifier<\/li>\n<li>Doing a facial steam<\/li>\n<li>Taking a hot shower<\/li>\n<li>Rinsing your nose with a neti pot<\/li>\n<li>Applying a warm compress<\/li>\n<li>Using a saline nasal spray<\/li>\n<li>Taking over-the-counter medication<\/li>\n<li>Getting plenty of rest<\/li>\n<li>Eating spicy food<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Many things can cause a runny nose, and it often doesn\u2019t require treatment.
