It is how they learn, play, and interact with the world around them.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, many eye problems such as nearsightedness and infections in children go undetected, which can lead to long-term issues. There are many things to be aware of that may indicate a problem with your child\u2019s eyes. They include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Their eyes do not line up or appear crossed<\/li>\n<li>Their eyelids are red-rimmed, crusted, or swollen<\/li>\n<li>Their eyes are watery or inflamed<\/li>\n<li>They rub their eyes a lot<\/li>\n<li>They close or cover one eye<\/li>\n<li>They tilt their head forward<\/li>\n<li>They have trouble reading or doing other close-up work<\/li>\n<li>They hold objects close to their eyes to see<\/li>\n<li>They blink more than usual or seem cranky when doing close-up work<\/li>\n<li>Things are blurry or hard to see for them<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Regular eye examinations can prevent issues from occurring or stop them from getting worse.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to getting a comprehensive eye exam, there are\u00a0 several ways to protect your child\u2019s eye health, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Wearing protective eyewear during sports and other activities<\/li>\n<li>Limiting screen time<\/li>\n<li>Practicing healthy nutrition<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you would like to schedule an eye exam for your child, you can visit a pediatric <a href=\"https:\/\/jamaicahospital.org\/clinical-services\/pediatric-ophthalmology\/\">ophthalmologist<\/a> at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center.
