It is a translation of two Japanese words, \u201crei\u201d which\u00a0 means universal and \u201cki\u201d which means the vital life energy. It is\u00a0 a healing modality that helps a person to \u00a0feel relaxed and less stressed.<\/p>\n<p>Each reiki session takes approximately 50 minutes. The patient lays fully clothed on a massage table and the person who is performing reiki places their hands either directly on or just above the patient\u2019s body. This allows for the transfer of energy from the practitioner\u2019s hands to the patient. This transfer of energy increases the flow\u00a0 and balance of energy through the body in order to help it heal.<\/p>\n<p>The benefits of reiki include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Brings on a meditative state<\/li>\n<li>Promotes post-surgery healing<\/li>\n<li>Increases the immune system<\/li>\n<li>Diminishes pain<\/li>\n<li>Promotes natural self-healing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Jamaica Hospital Medical Center\u2019s Integrative Health Center offers reiki to our patients.
