Deborah A. Pasquale, DDS, FAGD

Chairperson and Director, Department of Dental Medicine

Dr. Pasquale graduated from New York University Dental School having completed her undergraduate degree at Iona College. This was followed by a one year General Practice Residency at Jamaica Hospital Medical center. Since then she has held various titles at Jamaica hospital culminating in her being named Chairperson in March of 2014. Dr Pasquale is an active member in the tripartite American Dental Association and many other distinguished societies. Presently she serves as President of the International College of Dentists and the Puerto Rico Dental Association and NYSDA Representative for Second District on the Council on Dental Education and Licensure.Her interests outside of her profession are yoga, weight lifting, reading, cooking and spending time with family.


Edward S. Lustbader, DDS

Associate Director – Clinical

Dr. Edward Lustbader serves as an Associate Director in the Department of Dental Medicine.  He graduated from New York University College of Dentistry and then completed a General Practice Residency at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center. Prior to joining Jamaica Hospital, Dr. Lustbader was the Supervising Dentist at the Department of Dentistry of Interfaith Medical Center for over eighteen years.  In addition to attending to the needs of the dental residents, his responsibilities include the clinical operations of the Department.  He has been practicing General Dentistry in his private office for over thirty-five years. Dr. Lustbader has devoted a significant part of his dental career supervising, training and teaching dental residents.  He enjoys working with and mentoring them.


Benjamin Solomowitz, DMD

Associate Director – Dental Training
Dr. Ben Solomowitz is the Director of the General Practice Residency. He graduated from Boston University Goldman School of Graduate Dentistry and then did a Dental Anesthesiology and a General Practice Residency at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center. As a dental anesthesiologist, he has been involved with hospital dentistry and teaching his entire career. He also maintains an office in Park Slope, Brooklyn. He is a Diplomate of both the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology and the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology and a Fellow of the International College of Dentists. Dr. Solomowitz has lectured at the Greater N.Y. Dental Meeting and other local venues. His articles have appeared in Dental Clinics of North America and the NYS Dental Journal.


Bradley Fischman, DDS

Chief Prosthodontics, Department of Dental Medicine 

Dr. Fischman received his DDS from New York University College of Dentistry, completed an internship, then a General Practice Residency at L.I.J.Q.H.C. This was followed by a residency in Prosthodontics at Kingsbrook Medical Center. Dr. Fischman has been an Attending in the Department of Dental Medicine at the Jamaica Hospital Medical Center for many years. He is also a Consultant at Stony Brook University Hospital, an Assistant Professor at New York University School of Dental Medicine and has lectured extensively, domestically and internationally on Implant Prosthodontics. Dr. Fischman is a member of numerous distinguished societies as well as a Diplomat in the American Society of Osseointegration.


Harold Biller, DDS, MAGD

Volunteer Attending, Department of Dental Medicine 

Dr. Biller has been contributing his valuable time to the success of our Residency Program since 1994 and is an excellent mentor to the residents. He received his DDS degree from New York University College of Dentistry (1980). As a member of the AGD, Dr. Biller received his MAGD in July 2011. Since joining the faculty, Dr. Biller has been lecturing extensively to the residents on Operative Dentistry & Current Trends. Dr. Biller holds professional affiliations with the American Dental Association, Dental Society of the State of New York the Academy of General Dentistry, including other professional societies. He is currently serving on the board of directors of the Queens County Dental Society. He maintains his private practices in Jamaica Estates and Forest Hills, both located in the Queens section of NY.


Richard Boguslaw, DDS

Volunteer Attending, Department of Dental Medicine 

Dr. Boguslaw is presently the Director of Periodontics. He joined the faculty at Jamaica Hospital Medical Health Center in 1986 and plays a very active role in teaching our residents to be well-rounded in the field of dentistry. Dr. Boguslaw lectures in Periodontics and is active in dental forensics. He obtained his DMD degree from Washington University School of Dental Medicine, St. Louis, MO (1973) and did his General Practice Residency at The Jewish Hospital of St. Louis (1976). He completed his training in Periodontology at Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey (1978). Dr. Boguslaw is member of the American Academy of Periodontology and numerous other professional organizations. He maintains his private practice in the Hollis Hills section of Queens, NY.

 


Neil Cohen, DDS

Part-Time Attending, Department of Dental Medicine 

Dr. Cohen joined our faculty since 1994 and has always been instrumental in assisting with our residency program. He obtained his DDS degree from New York University College of Dentistry (1977). He has been doing voluntary work with numerous groups since 1973 to present. Dr. Cohen is currently an active member in N.Y.S. Dental Society, Queens County Dental Society, as well as a member of other professional societies. He maintains his private practice in the Flushing, NY.


Francis Eng, DDS

Volunteer Attending, Department of Dental Medicine 

Dr. Eng, Orthodontist and Board Certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. He was appointed to the Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in 2006 and has been actively conducting Orthodontics lectures to our residents. Dr. Eng graduated from Howard University College of Dentistry, Washington, DC, (1982) followed by a one-year General Practice Residency at Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center. He received his orthodontic training at Fairleigh Dickinson University, Hackensack, NJ. Dr. Eng maintains his private practice in Flushing, NY and he also holds affiliations with other medical institutions within the New York area.


Al Gulum, DDS

Volunteer Attending, Department of Dental Medicine 

Dr. Gulum joined the Dental Department faculty in 1995 and has since, been consistently providing excellent lectures on Fixed Prosthodontis (Crown & Bridge), including supervising our residents on a monthly basis. He was designated as the Section Head of Crown and Bridge (2009) in our department. Dr. Gulum graduated with a DDS degree from SUNY at Stony Brook (1984) and completed a one-year General Practice Residency at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center (1985). He also completed a Mini-residency in Implant Dentistry, Nobel Biocare in 2005. Dr. Gulum completed several publications in 1980 and 1984 and has also received leadership and service awards. Dr. Gulum is a member of Queens County Dental Society, American Dental Association, Mastership Level at the Academy of General Dentistry including other distinguished societies. He is the moderator of the long-running, popular Video Study Club at the Queens County Dental Society and is a volunteer member of the Peer Review Committee at the dental society.


Albert Ilyayev, DDS

Volunteer Attending, Department of Dental Medicine 

Dr. Ilyayev, newly appointed in October, 2013 is a graduate from New York University College of Dentistry (2012). He completed a one-year General Practice Residency at the Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in June of 2013. His quest for learning and assisting the residents weekly, is quite gratifying. Currently Dr. Ilyayev is in private practice in General Dentistry, Brooklyn, NY and continues to develop his surgical skills in different aspects of dentistry including continuing education in bone graphing and implant dentistry.


Warren Kaggen, DDS

Volunteer Attending, Department of Dental Medicine 

Dr. Kaggen joined the faculty in 2003 and is in charge of Diagnosis and Treatment Planning sessions with the residents on a weekly basis. He graduated in 1983 from Stony Brook Dental School with a DDS degree, followed by a one year General Practice Residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital (1984). Dr. Kaggen does more than lecturing and providing supervision to our residents, he also takes time to mentor our residents with their quest for excellence. He is a member of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, along with other distinguished societies. Dr. Kaggen is also a Fellow with the International Congress of Oral Implantology (2008) and Academy of General Dentistry (1991). He maintains his private practice in Whitestone, NY.


Stuart Kessner, DDS

Volunteer Attending, Department of Dental Medicine 

Dr. Kesner was appointed to the faculty since 1987. He assists with the teaching and supervision of our residents at least twice monthly. Dr. Kesner is Creator and Chairman of Event for Oral Cancer Awareness Event for NY METS and QCDS and is quite instrumental with actively involving the residents’ exposure with this event. He graduated with his DDS degree from Columbia University College of Dental Medicine (1984) and completed a one-year residency at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center (1985). He is a member of Queens County Dental Society Board of Trustees, New York State Dental Association, a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry FADG 1993, a member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, including other distinguished societies. Dr. Kesner is also involved with St. John’s dental preceptorship program where pre-dental students observe in his office. He Kesner maintains his private practice in Flushing, NY.

 


Michael J. Mand, DDS

Volunteer Attending,  Department of Dental Medicine

Dr. Mand is a general dentist who comes from a dental family.  He began working with his dad after graduating from New York University College of Dentistry in 1980. In addition to his private practice, he has been associated with many different hospital residency programs over the years. Currently he is an attending dentist in the residency program here at Jamaica Hospital. In addition to his main career, Dr. Mand has a side interest in radio.  He produces and hosts a weekly web-based eclectic music show for three hours on Friday afternoons broadcasting from the radio studio at SUNY Old Westbury in Old Westbury, NY (OWWR). Dr. Mand is also active in his synagogue as well as his community civic association.


Maria Maranga, DDS

Volunteer Attending, Department of Dental Medicine

Dr. Maranga, Endodontist, was appointed to the Jamaica Hospital Medical Center faculty in August, 2012. She graduated from New York University College of Dentistry with a DDS degree, followed by a one year General Practice Residency at VA Medical center, Northport, NY (1989), then completed her post graduate program in Endodontics at New York University (1991). Dr. Maranga’s clinical skills and teaching experience in the field of Endodontics has been nothing but the best for our residency program. She lectures extensively to them at least 2 – 3 times monthly. Her mentoring ability to the residents is impeccable. She has held numerous teaching positions and is currently Clinical Assistant Professor Post Graduate Endodontics, SUNY at Stony Brook since 1997. Dr. Maranga has lectured throughout the New York and Washington, DC areas. Dr. Maranga is also on staff at Brookdale Hospital, Brooklyn, NY. She sits on both the ADA’s Council on Membership and the ADA’s Diversity Committee. She was voted one of Long Island’s 50 most influential business women, 2012 and most recently, 2014 the Lucy Sorry for the capitols and such. Dr. Maranga has served on many committees and belongs to various distinguished societies. She was also elected President for New York State Endodontics Association (2011-2013). Dr. Maranga holds professional affiliations with American Association of Endodontists, New York State Association of Endodontists, including others. She maintains her private practice in Aquebougue, NY.


Nancy Marin-Rojas, DDS

Volunteer Attending, Department of Dental Medicine 

Dr. Marin-Rojas joined the faculty in 2001 and has, over the years, been a dynamic teacher in General Practice Dentistry, a mentor to the residents, along with her supervising skills to the success of our residency program. She is a former DDS graduate from New York University College of Dentistry (1994) and has completed a one-year residency training at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center (1995). Dr. Marin-Rojas holds membership with the American Dental Association, New York State Dental Association, including other societies. She maintains her private practice in Manhattan, NY.


Allan Mohr, DDS

Volunteer Attending, Department of Dental Medicine 

Dr. Mohr graduated from New York University College of Dentistry (1983) and was appointed to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center (1996). He completed a one year residency training at Peninsula Hospital Center, Far Rockaway, NY (1984). Dr. Mohr is an excellent teacher and mentor in esthetics, cosmetic, restorative and implant dentistry to our residents, including hands-on experience at least 2 – 3 times a month. He has also lectured extensively at local and national meetings on these topics. For years, Dr. Mohr has been considered one of “America’s Top Dentists” by the Consumers Research Council of America. His professional memberships include American Dental Association, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Academy of General Dentistry, including other distinguished societies. Dr. Mohr maintains his private practice in Massapequa, NY.


Harry Sacks, DDS, MD

Part-Time Attending, Department of Dental Medicine

Dr. Sacks, an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, a Diplomate of American Board Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (1986), has been on the staff of JHMC since 1985. Dr. Sacks serves as the Director of the Division of Implantology and is primarily responsible for the oral surgery training of the general practice residents. In conjunction with the OMS residents, he oversees inpatient care. A graduate of New York University College of Dentistry (1980), he subsequently completed a one year General Practice residency at North Shore University Hospital (1981), Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery residency at Metropolitan Hospital/New York Medical College (1984) and an OMS Fellowship at St. Mary’s Medical Center in St. Louis, Mo. (1985). Dr. Sacks also obtained a J.D. (cum laude) from St. Johns University School of Law (2000). Dr. Sacks’ quest for excellence along with his clinical experience and skills is immeasurable to the success of our residency program. He is a dynamic teacher and lectures on a weekly basis, on Oral Surgery and Dental Implants, as well as providing hands-on clinical experience to our residents. Dr. Sacks recently, has co-authored, with our OMS residents, two publications in the Journal Oral Maxillofacial Surgery; “Gigantiform” Peripheral Ossifying Fibroma: Report of a Case and “Soft Tissue and Occlusal Management in the Surgical Uprighting of Impacted Molars: A Technical Note”. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor – Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at New York University College of Dentistry and Assistant Clinical Professor – Department of Dentistry/Division of OMFS at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine and New York Medical College. He is on the attending staffs of Long Island Jewish Medical Center and North Shore University Hospital. Dr. Sacks is a member of the Academy of Osseointegration, the American Academy of Oral Pathology, the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and the American Dental Association. He maintains his private practice in New Hyde Park, NY.


George Schabes, DDS

Part-Time Attending, Department of Dental Medicine 

Dr. Schabes, who serves as Director of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS), was appointed to the faculty of the Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in 1979. He has participated in the growth of our program, from an initial single resident to the current 11 general practice and six OMS residents. He is a Diplomate of the American Board Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (1980) and a Diplomate of National Dental Board of Dental Anesthesiology (2002). Dr. Schabes obtained his DDS degree from the Columbia University College of Dental Medicine, followed by his OMS specialty residency training at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center (1978). His years of dedication to the success of our residency program have been invaluable through his teaching and supervision of clinical and in-patient surgical care. Dr. Schabes has lectured extensively and conducted numerous courses over the years; his publications have appeared in the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and other peer reviewed periodicals. Dr. Schabes is an Associate Clinical Professor, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, New York University College of Dentistry (1997) and an Assistant Clinical Professor, Department of Dentistry, Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, New York Medical College (2001). He also holds the position of Assistant Clinical Professor at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine (1996). Dr. Schabes holds professional memberships in the American Dental Association, American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, and other distinguished organizations. He maintains a private practice limited to oral and maxillofacial surgery in New Hyde Park, NY.
