General Information
Alan R. Roth, DO, FAAFP
Chairman, Department of Family Medicine
Director Palliative Medicine Fellowship Program
Dr. Roth is a dually certified Diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine. He is also Board Certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine. He presently serves as Chairman of the Department of Family Medicine and Director of the Palliative Medicine Fellowship Program. Dr. Roth’s primary goal is to develop and enrich the training experiences of physicians interested in urban Family Medicine. He has completed a Residency Program Director Fellowship with the American Academy of Family Physicians and lectures nationally on urban Family Medicine Residency training and curriculum development. His special areas of interest include cultural competency training in graduate medical education, palliative medicine, disease prevention, health promotion and procedural skills. Dr. Roth is a community minded physician who regularly mentors many of our local youth interested in becoming Family Physicians.
Gina M. Basello, DO
Program Director, Family Medicine Residency Program
and Associate Director, Palliative Care Fellowship Program
Dr. Basello is a graduate of the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. She is Board Certified in Family Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Medicine. She completed her residency training at the Jamaica Hospital Medical Center Mount Sinai School of Medicine Family Medicine Residency Program. She has always been passionate about education and immediately accepted a faculty position at the program and was quickly promoted to Associate Program Director. She was appointed Program Director in 2008 and her favorite part about being a Program Director is mentoring Residents. She also serves as the Associate Director of the Palliative Care Fellowship Program and Director of Graduate Medical Education at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. Her professional areas of interest include cultural sensitivity training, faculty development and Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
Sally Mathew-Geevarughese, DO
Dr. Mathew-Geevarughese is a full time hospice and palliative care attending at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. She is a graduate of the NYIT-College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her family medicine residency training at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, NY. She went on to complete a Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine Program. She is board certified in Family Medicine/ OMT as well as Hospice and Palliative Medicine. She supervises fellows, residents and medical students and enjoys teaching how to deliver quality, compassionate care to people of all ages and walks in life.
Oscar Corzo, MD
Dr. Corzo completed his medical education at SUNY Downstate College of Medicine in Brooklyn. His residency was in Family Medicine at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he also went on to complete his Fellowship in Palliative Care. A long-time adopted New Yorker, he is happy to continue to be part of the Jamaica Hospital family as Faculty Attending in Palliative Care. During his time serving the Queens community, he has found it personally rewarding to deliver compassionate care and guidance to under served populations with chronic and terminal illness.
Dr. Corzo’s interests also include community medicine, which led him to hold his additional position of Medical Advisor for Jamaica Hospitals Care Management programs. These programs provide enhanced outpatient resources to patients in need in order to improve the management of their chronic conditions and protect them from further worsening that may require hospital admission.
Elizabeth Figuracion, DO
Dr. Figuracion is an attending physician in Hospice and Palliative Care at Jamaica Hospital. She is board certified in Family Medicine. She earned her medical degree from New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Figuracion has completed her residency in Family Medicine as well as her Hospice and Palliative Care fellowship at Jamaica Hospital. As she calls Queens New York her home, she finds passion in helping vulnerable populations, especially through difficult times.
