Jamaica Hospital’s concept of a Women’s Health Care Center began as a six room OB/GYN office and eventually transformed into what is a now a modern, fully-equipped facility with 15 exam rooms and three procedure rooms to meet the specific needs of women in the community.

Our expert staff is comprised of a caring and multi lingual team of  obstetricians, gynecologists, surgeons, technicians, nurse practitioners, certified nurse midwives, and registered and licensed practical nurses, all dedicated to providing high quality and compassionate care.

Located only one block from the main campus of Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, our Women’s Health Center offers a wide variety of integrated clinical and educational services in a comfortable and caring environment. Some of our services include:

  • Individual or group Prenatal Care (known as CenteringPregnancy)
  • Routine GYN exam / well-woman exam
  • Prenatal screening and diagnostic testing
  • High Risk Obstetrics

  • Treatment of GYN problems (infections, irregular bleeding, pain)

We partner with the Cancer Services Program and offer Cancer Screenings at NO cost to you.

We offer extended evening and weekend hours and we accept most insurances as well as Medicare and Medicaid. We also offer an affordable sliding fee scale for those who do not have insurance.

We are conveniently located at 133-03 Jamaica Avenue, Richmond Hill, New York 11418. We are easily accessible by both train or bus and we have free parking in the rear of the building.

Labor Delivery, Recovery Unit

More than 2,000 babies are born each year at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. However each birth is special to us. We aim to make your birthing experience and stay on our Labor, Delivery and Recovery Unit as comfortable as possible.

Jamaica Hospital’s Labor, Delivery and Recovery Unit consist of 12-single labor rooms and are equipped with state-of-the-art technology. Our beautifully decorated recovery suites are spacious and provide a home-like environment and offer amenities such as private bathrooms, flat screen televisions, recliners and complementary telephone service. We have complimentary coffee in the waiting room with USB chargers for your guests’ convenience.

Our Staff

Rest assured that our highly trained staff of inter-disciplinary health professionals all share one common goal which is to provide you with the highest and safest level of care.  We are a teaching hospital which means we have extra staff on hand to take care of your needs. Our students and residents are attentive and very knowledgeable doctors who are in their last stages of training.  All hands are on deck to take care of your needs.

Your Birthing Experience


When you arrive to Jamaica Hospital, you will be directed to our Triage, where we will assess your labor symptoms. If you are in labor, we will move you to your own private labor room.

We are passionate about family centered care and allow two guests and an additional coach to be by your bedside. Young siblings are welcome to stay for the delivery, although some children opt to wait outside until their sibling arrives. In that case, we ask an adult be present to supervise the child.

For normal deliveries, you will remain in your private labor room with your support team. For C-sections or other deliveries that require specialized care, we have a state-of-the-art operating room located on the unit.

Obstetric Anesthesia

Modern obstetric anesthesia care focuses on helping both mother and baby safely through the childbirth process. At Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, our team of OB Anesthesiologists is available 24/7 and is dedicated to making this process as pain-free as is safely possible.

Post-Partum Care

After you have given birth, we continue to provide the quality care needed for your newborn’s healthy beginning. Your support team which includes certified lactation consultants and other health care professionals are available to help you recover and care for your baby. Jamaica Hospital is a designated Baby –Friendly® Hospital and we encourage breastfeeding/chestfeeding because of the many health benefits it provides your baby.

Skin-to- Skin

Kangaroo Care or skin-to-skin is holding your baby against your bare chest to promote bonding and provide extra warmth. Mothers will be assisted by the Labor and Delivery staff to hold their baby skin to skin as soon as possible after the delivery, provided both mother and baby are stable. Skin-to-skin benefits include better breastfeeding/chestfeeding success, calmer babies, better blood sugar levels and improved respiratory rates.

Breastfeeding/Chestfeeding Support

We have an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant and specially trained registered nurses available for breastfeeding/chestfeeding support throughout your entire stay. We also offer ongoing individual instruction on bathing, feeding, developmental needs of the newborn and follow-up care for yourself and infant. Mother Baby Unit

Your Stay With Us

The Mother Baby Unit at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center provides a supportive, family centered care environment to make the birth of your baby a memorable experience.

Our dedicated staff is fully committed to providing quality care and meeting all your needs as well as those of the newest member of your family.  We go the extra mile to ensure your stay is comfortable.

Our 35-bed secured maternity unit provides you with a safe, comfortable environment to nurture your baby. Patient rooms are equipped with private bathrooms, flat screen televisions, recliners and complimentary telephone service.

Rooming In

Jamaica Hospital understands the importance of getting to know your infant. The bond between you and your baby is strengthened when 24 hour contact is practiced. This means that mother and bay are not separated after delivery. building a bond between you and your baby, which is why we practice 24-hour rooming. Mommy and baby are not separated after delivery. Research has shown that mother mother and baby receive better quality sleep when they room in together. While staying in the same room, you will learn to care for your new baby, learn their breastfeeding/chestfeeding cues and other needs. Our staff will come to you for baby’s checkups and anything else you may need. Your significant other or support person is encouraged to spend the night as permitted to assist with caring for your baby. Recliners are available.


We encourage skin-to-skin contact to help you bond with your baby. For breastfeeding/chestfeeding moms, this will help your baby to latch on for milk.

For infants requiring closer observation, the Newborn Observation Room is available with a team of experts on hand.

Mother Baby Unit Visiting Hours

The visiting hours on the Mother-Baby Unit, located on 2 North are 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (Overnight stay for fathers/significant others/support person is limited to 1 person)

Quiet Time

We believe a quiet environment is a healing environment. From 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, the lights are dimmed, and noise is kept to a low level. This allows new moms to rest and have privacy with their newborn.

Birth Certificates

After you have delivered your baby, our birth registrar will come present you with birth certificate papers to be handed in before your day of discharge. The birth certificate and social security card will be mailed to you in 2-8 weeks. More information can be found on the official New York State website.

Our Birth Registration Office, located in the Admitting Department on the ground floor of the hospital, can be reached at 718-206-8948 during the following hours:

Monday – Saturday (including holidays) 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Gift Upon Discharge

Every mother receives an exclusive gift upon discharge. It's our special way of saying thank you for choosing Jamaica Hospital.

Day of Discharge - Car Seat

Safety is very important to us. An infant leaving the hospital in a vehicle must be in a car seat. Feel free to pull your vehicle to the main entrance of the hospital. Our staff is available to help you and your baby during day of discharge.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Jamaica Hospital Medical Center - Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

In the event your baby should require specialized treatment, our dedicated and highly-trained neonatal intensive care team will monitor your baby’s health 24 hours a day. Our NICU provides cutting-edge services for prematurely born infants or full-term infants who are otherwise medically compromised.

Jamaica Hospital Medical Center’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is a Level 3 NICU. Evidence shows that babies with very low birth weights and premature infants have better outcomes when born at Level 3 centers.  Our 19-bed unit is located on the second floor adjacent to the Labor and Delivery Unit and Mother-Baby Unit.

Our NICU provides expert newborn care for premature and seriously ill babies. Our expert neonatologists, experienced nursing staff and other health professionals are dedicated to providing the best and most advanced care possible to newborns with critical health challenges.

The NICU team will guide parents, educate, and communicate with them throughout their newborn’s progress. We welcome parents 24 hours a day and encourage them to touch, hold and feed their babies as much as possible.

Physicians from other specialties such as pediatric cardiology, pediatric surgery, neurology, ophthalmology, and endocrinology may be a part of consultant teams involved in caring for your baby in the NICU.

NICU Breastfeeding/Chestfeeding Support

Some babies cannot be fed by mouth right after birth. Our Lactation Consultants, who support mothers and babies with breastfeeding/chestfeeding in the NICU, will teach and assist you with expressing and storing human milk for your baby. We'll also help mothers and babies with positioning and latching on to the breast.
