Orthopedic Surgery-Joint Replacement

The Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Jamaica Hospital has been providing high quality and expert care to the community for many years. With a strong affiliation with New York University Hospital(NYU) for Joint Diseases, the department takes pride in its ability to provide its patients with the same cutting-edge and complex care available at major university teaching hospitals.

Our fellowship trained and world renowned surgeons specialize in a wide variety of subspecialties and use both nonsurgical and surgical procedures to treat musculoskeletal issues, ranging from hand and upper extremity problems to all types of fractures and broken bones, as well as sports related injuries. To ensure that our patients receive the full gamut of care, we also offer comprehensive pre-and-post operative services, such as patient education classes, radiology services and rehabilitation services.

Sports Medicine
The Department of Orthopedic Surgery is comprised of highly-skilled surgeons, who are experts in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries. Whether suffering from an athletic injury sustained during competitive/recreational play or rigorous workouts, our team is committed to optimizing our patients' return to an active lifestyle.

Our surgeons utilize minimally invasive arthroscopic techniques and offer specialized rehabilitative programs to treat several common sports-related injuries, including:

Spine Surgery
A multidisciplinary team of physical therapists, rehabilitation specialists, pain management staff, manipulative therapists, and spine surgeons work collaboratively to treat a wide variety of back and spine conditions.

With high technical skills and years of experience, we perform the most advanced procedures for the treatment of acute spinal injuries, as well as degenerative conditions. This includes:

Hand and Upper Extremity Conditions

Complex Fractures and Orthopedic Trauma
Jamaica Hospital boasts a reputable Level I Trauma Center, where our dedicated and experienced surgeons are known for providing exceptional care to some of the most complex trauma and fracture injuries in the New York City area.

Our surgeons possess the expertise needed to provide emergency and superior care to patients suffering from severe:

  • Foot and ankle fractures
  • Hand and wrist fractures
  • Hip and knee fractures
  • Shoulder and elbow fractures
  • Spine fractures

We've successfully used innovative surgical and non-surgical techniques and procedures to treat our patients, including minimally invasive bone grafting and pelvic reconstruction. We work closely with the facility's rehabilitation team to provide a comprehensive plan that can lead to the best outcomes.

Total Joint Reconstruction
The Department of Orthopedic Surgery has a dedicated Total Joint Center where highly integrated care is provided to our patients from the time of their diagnosis to post-surgery recovery. Utilizing an interdisciplinary approach, our total joint specialist works with a team of highly skilled physicians orthopedic surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, physical therapists, and occupational therapists to treat patients in need of hip or knee replacement.

We provide a wide variety of surgical and non-surgical treatment options for arthritis and osteoarthritis, specifically:

  • Injections
  • Total knee and hip replacement
  • Total hip resurfacing
  • Joint replacement
  • Arthroscopic hip and knee surgery
  • Physical therapy

For patients requiring surgery, our pre-operative educational program provides information on how to prepare for surgery, the recovery process, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and follow-up care.

After surgery, our patients participate in an extensive rehabilitation program offered by the hospital's Department of Rehabilitation. This approach ensures a continuum of care and has produced successful outcomes for our patients.
